Though it’s beneficial for us to sleep in silence, sometimes our mattresses didn’t get the memo. The result is that they constantly make creaking sounds even by moving slightly on the bed. While it might not seem like a major problem, this can inhibit our sleep and ultimately cause several of the physical and mental problems that we often experience.

But what exactly causes the creaking noises in our beds? It’s the bed springs. In particular, the springs are returning to their original heights after we shift our weight. So the bed then uses other springs to support our bodies. Although these sounds won’t cause major damage to your ears, they can be quite a nuisance and can ultimately prevent you from getting the proper amount of nightly sleep that you require.

And keep in mind that when you can’t get the 6-8 hours of sleep that health experts recommend for most adults, then this can negatively impact your life. Both your body and mind become impacted negatively, creating a variety of problems including weaker muscles, an irritable mood, and reduced mental focus. These symptoms can create problems that range from slight to significant (and even fatal). For instance, sleep deprivation could cause you to forget why you went to the kitchen, or could cause you to fall asleep while operating a vehicle.

To solve the problem of squeaking in your box spring mattress, you have two basic options. One is to place a duvet between the box spring mattress and your top mattress. This is a type of bedding that consists of a soft and flat bag. Historically, duvets have contained feathers or down-or a combination of the two fillers.

However, keep in mind that using duvets merely absorbs the squeaking sound, and may not completely eliminate it. A more practical option is to use a memory foam mattress sleep system. This type of system contains three components: a top Memory Foam Layer, a middle Base Foam Layer, and a bottom Platform Layer. No springs are included, and thus no squeaking will occur.

Still, it’s important to note that a sleep system that contains a memory foam mattress won’t merely help you to sleep by not creating annoying sounds. In fact, the structure of the sleep system itself will help you to achieve that goal.

The essence of memory foam mattress is the “open cell” foam. If you live on planet Earth, then you’ve probably encountered foam. However, “open cell” foam differs from “closed cell” foam, in that the former contains bubbles with tiny holes in them. When you “squeeze” the bubbles by merely lying on the memory foam mattress, air escapes the bubbles like water escaping a squeezed sponge. This action puts the “memory” in a memory foam mattress. The mattress conforms to the shape of your body, ultimately supporting it better.

If you’re having problems sleeping due to a squeaky box spring mattress, then rid yourself of the problem by ridding yourself of the mattress. A memory foam mattress can help you to sleep save and sound-in silence.
